ASSESSMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF SPORT RELATED CONUSSION
The Australian Institute of Sport has developed guidelines for identifying and managing sport-related concussions in children and adolescents under 19, as well as adults participating in community sports, with the aim of ensuring a safe return to play.
The guidelines require a medical assessment by a practitioner. This assessment includes gathering a clinical history, conducting a thorough examination that covers how the injury occurred, symptoms and signs, cognitive function, neurological status, and balance.
The medical practitioner will then provide the final clearance for the athlete to return to sports activities. Given the detailed nature of this process and the need for a comprehensive evaluation, please inform our reception staff when booking an appointment for a sport-related head injury.
Thank you for your cooperation.
